The Badlands Sabres goalie enjoying what has so far been a successful 3rd season with the club, Hunter recently took a trip out east to join the NAHL’s club, the Johnstown Tomahawks for a week of practice.
“It was great being a goalie on the ice with that level of players. Playing and competing with players that are committed to ncaa division 1 is some of the best training anyone can get. Their shots are some of the best in the country and to be able to get the chance to see them and save them feels really good as a goalie “, says Oger.
Hunter has appeared in 11 games this season with the Badlands Sabres, posting a goals against average of 2.35, good enough for 13th in the league. He also boasts a .927 save percentage, and 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 OT loss.
“Obviously being able to skate with a nahl team all week, I personally developed and got better so bringing that skill back with me is huge. More so than training, just being able to see how the guys at the next level train and carry themselves is something I was able to observe and bring back with me to incorporate here. Everything they do is with so much passion and commitment that there is never room for slack or failure”.
Oger rejoined the Sabres this week as they get ready to host the Yellowstone Quake for a pair of games Thursday December 12th and Friday December 13th at the Roosevelt Park Ice arena. but not without some lasting memories of his trip to Pennsylvania.
“A moment that stuck out to me during the week was during the rebound game. It was 9-9, first to ten and I had to make like five rebound saves before making a huge back door windmill glove save to win it and everyone went wild”.
